BECOME’s Venture Building approach connects scientific evidence, user needs and delivery planning. We work from the opportunity in front of us: a research result, a technology concept or a problem that could justify a new solution.
Bring an opportunity with a question worth answering
We welcome non-confidential introductions to opportunities aligned with our five DeepTech domains. Useful starting points include a result that needs application testing, a technology with a potential user or an industrial problem requiring research-led innovation.
Assess the foundations
- Need: who would use the solution and why?
- Evidence: what has already been investigated or demonstrated?
- Readiness: what must be learned before the next commitment?
- People: which scientific, technical and commercial capabilities are needed?
- Rights: who controls the knowledge, data and assets required?
- Next milestone: what result would justify further work?
From research to market
Qualification establishes whether there is a relevant opportunity and a workable starting point. A development plan then connects the technical questions with potential users, resources and decisions. The plan should make uncertainties visible rather than assume a commercial outcome.
Demonstrators and pilots
A demonstrator tests a defined proposition. A pilot examines a bounded use case under agreed conditions. Both need a clear scope, suitable expertise and an evaluation method. Their results inform whether to advance, change direction or stop.
Technologies, licences and ventures
Commercialisation can take different forms: a collaboration with an existing company, a licensing arrangement, a product opportunity or a new venture. The appropriate route depends on demand, evidence, ownership and the team’s capacity to deliver.
BECOME’s contribution
The engagement can be scoped around expert input, project structuring, partner identification and agreed development responsibilities. The proposal identifies what BECOME contributes and which specialist partners or resources are required.
Agree terms before moving forward
Confidentiality, background knowledge, new outputs, commercial rights and remuneration are addressed for the particular engagement. Any equity participation or licence arrangement is negotiated separately.
Does submitting a project guarantee investment?
No. An enquiry starts a qualification discussion. Funding and further participation depend on separate decisions and agreements.
Must the outcome be a startup?
No. A research collaboration, a licence or a project with an established organisation may be more appropriate.
Start with a non-confidential overview
Tell us about the problem, the technology’s current stage and the milestone you want to reach. Please keep unpublished technical detail out of the first enquiry.
